A continually expanding economy, lots of recreational space, some of the cleanest cities in the world, and crime rates are very low in Canada One of the best places in the world to live. Here are some points to consider if you are moving Canada for business or personal reasons.

Citizenship

Those planning to stay in Canada for the long term should begin immediately for advice on obtaining citizenship. Canada has many advantages to offer its citizens, but government programs such as Universal Health Care are only available to permanent residents. Becoming a Canadian citizen requires an application, and some official documents, and you may need to pass a test.

Do not believe the rumors Weather

It is likely that if you've never spent much time in Canada, you've heard stories about the country being the land of ice and snow, with conditions freezing in winter and bleak summers. While most countries is cold in winter (although the coastal regions such as British Columbia's Lower Mainland are rarely below 0 C and see little snow) the summers in many areas can be very hot. These range from the dry heat and burning inside British Columbia (where the temperature is rising in the mid 40s for several weeks in July or August) heat wettest places on along the St. Lawrence River (Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa).

Getting used to Distance

Eighty percent of Canada's population is located in the strip of land extending from Quebec to Windsor, to the U.S. border. The three largest cities are located at opposite ends of country: Montreal and Toronto in the East are within an easy day's drive of each other, while Vancouver lies far to the west of the ocean Pacific. Most other cities are well below 1 million, and the further north you go, the more empty space, you can expect found between population centers.

Social programs and Big Taxes

If you ask a Canadian what are the most important institutions of countries, nine out of ten point to universal healthcare and the public education system. These systems ensure that all Canadians have access to good health care and every child can attend school until grade 12 without having to pay for it. The two systems are the responsibility provinces, the Quebec Catholic background was a major contributor to the development of its two hospitals and schools, therefore it is necessary to buy health insurance even when traveling outside the province you reside in.

Hand in hand with comprehensive social programs are the high taxes to fund these programs. Canada has taxes on almost everything you could imagine, from various taxes on the federal gas and provincial taxes on alcohol, cigarettes, hotel rooms, and property transfers. In addition, the federal government levies a 6% of all goods and services, and every province but Alberta has some form of provincial sales tax. Income taxes for Canadians are also quite high, with a greater share deducted the more you earn.

Like other countries, Canada has points in its favor and against. Like most Canadian citizens point out, the price of taxes is relatively minor when measured against the Canadians enjoy many advantages, not least, is one of the cleanest and safest countries in the world.

Book Fairs Sell Books Book fairs provide publishers with an opportunity to meet the buying public in a most economical way. Buyers, be they from stores or the ultimate reader, are there to buy, they come in large quantities and they come to you. In addition to selling books, you can learn more about the book industry, marketing and current industry trends in two days at a book fair–if you are prepared–than you could in a year of intense study. But how does one prepare? Dan Poynter’s Book Fairs, An Exhibiting Guide for Publishers provides everything you need to successfully select, arrange and operate a booth at a book fair. It is full of inside tips on how to work a fair to your maximum advantage whether you are staffing a booth or working the floor. Book Fairs provides criteria for selecting fairs appropriate to your books; deciding on booth locations; a comparison of building, buying and renting displays; guidelines for designing the booth; descriptions of unique sign making techniques; reasons for give-away items; explanations of several sales approaches; a discussion of costs; tips on effective booth management; an outline of the pros and cons of exhibiting services; how to visit the other booths and much, much more. Like all of Dan’s books, there are lots of details, inside information, checklists and sources. The appendix provides addresses for the fairs, suppliers of displays and materials, reference books, magazines, associations, and consultants.

In this richly documented work, Serge Courville tells the geographical history of Quebec, from the appearance of the first human groups through to the present day. This detailed and erudite book maps the major stages of Quebec’s collective development, providing a geographical record of the many social relationships that over time created a sense of place. Landscape, Courville shows, is the keeper of memory, the record of successive changes, and a witness to the genesis of the new. Places that were once agricultural, then left to waste and ruin, are today revivified by tourism. Areas that now house office buildings were long ago open playgrounds where children ruled. Drawing on vast research, Courville shows how, in spite of the turbulence Quebec often endures – or perhaps because of it – the land itself may be seen as an important participant in the history of its peoples. Quebec: A Historical Geography was originally published by Les Presses de l’Universite Laval as Le Quebec: Geneses et mutation du territoire.

World of Fairs

In the depths of the Great Depression, when America’s future seemed bleak, nearly one hundred million people visited expositions celebrating the "century of progress." These fairs fired the national imagination and served as cultural icons on which Americans fixed their hopes for prosperity and power. World of Fairs continues Robert W. Rydell’s unique cultural history—begun in his acclaimed All the World’s a Fair—this time focusing on the interwar exhibitions. He shows how the ideas of a few—particularly artists, architects, and scientists—were broadcast to millions, proclaiming the arrival of modern America—a new empire of abundance build on old foundations of inequality. Rydell revisits several fairs, highlighting the 1926 Philadelphia Sesquicentennial, the 1931 Paris Colonial Exposition, the 1933-34 Chicago Century of Progress Exposition, the 1935-36 San Diego California Pacific Exposition, the 1936 Dallas Texas Centennial Exposition, the 1937 Cleveland Great Lakes and International Exposition, the 1939-40 San Francisco Golden Gate International Exposition, the 1939-40 New York World’s Fair, and the 1958 Brussels Universal Exposition.
