Harbin is one of the tourist sites most popular in China. Located in the heart of North-Eastern economic region of Asia and throughout the region East of the Songhua – Nenjiang Plain, Harbin is the largest and the capital of Heilongjiang – the country's northern province. Received the title of "oriental Moscow, 'Harbin also serves the economic, cultural, educational, and political center of the province.

Covering an area of approximately 18,500 kilometers square, Harbin and Zhaodong Lanxi County in north-west, Shuangcheng and Wuchang in the south-west, and Shangzhi and Bayan and the counties of Mulan in the southeast.

In addition, Harbin is about 300 miles drive from the port of extreme cold of Russia, namely, Vladivostok. Harbin is particularly known for two things, one for its cold weather, which sometimes collapsed in May to forty below zero, and another for its many famous International Ice and Snow Festival held each year. In winter, Harbin became truly becomes a paradise filled with ice and snow. Therefore, it is no wonder why Harbin was sometimes referred to as the "city of ice.

The Harbin Ice and Snow Festival officially began January 5 of each year and lasts about a month. Sometimes, The festival may even last more than a month, weather permitting. Founded in 1985 as a simple festival, the Ice and Snow Festival has now transformed into a event of international standards.

In other words, this festival is one of the most important and unique in the world. It is one of four major global ice and snow festivals, others being Snow Festival in Sapporo, Japan, Snow Festival Oslo Norway and the Carnival of Quebec from Canada. In addition, the festival involves the use of ice and snowmobiles are available in the region at its best. A host of events are conducted during the ice and snow festival, like a fabulous fireworks competitions in ice hockey, swimming, winter skiing and trials of speed skating, playing football on snow expansive grounds, poetry jamboree, and ice and snow festival film.

However, the focal point of the festival is Zhaolin Park, located beside the Songhua River in the center of Harbin. Named in honor of a general buried in the park, the park Zhaolin contains a series of beautiful sculptures, which are carved from ice. All sculptures are renowned for their exquisite design, ranging from figures of men, animals and birds in the mythical and historical figures and political figures of world famous sites such as Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal.

Among the highlights of the festival are Sun Island Sculpture Festival, Ice and Snow World, Harbin Ice Festival, and Ice Lantern Festival. Sun Island Sculpture Festival allows you to engage in a variety of activities. In the case of Ice and Snow World has been recognized as the world's ice Disneyland. When it comes to the Art Fair Ice Lantern, events in connection with the festival date back to the time the Ming and Qing dynasties, that is, there are about 500 years.

Al it is started by hunters in the region during the winter, later in 1963, Mayor of Harbin decided to hold official competitions to encourage skilled people to create more artistic works. Many beautiful ice lanterns are displayed during the event, ranging from calligraphy and miniature gardens with waterfalls and flowers.

During the festival, tourists from all corners and crannies of the world come here to take part in this unique festival. The main highlight of this festival is undoubtedly Contest Ice sculpting, in which talented professional ice carvers from around the world participate, including some work while some only work within the group.

In this contest, sculptors transform huge blocks of ice into beautiful works of art of different sizes, themes and shapes. All these sculptures are simply amazing during the day time. They are even breathtaking at night when they are all beautifully lit by Hundreds and thousands of neon lights. In short, the park becomes Zhaolin really spectacular because of its unique and amazing creations ice.
