According to a study by the Canadian Trucking Alliance, Natural Resources Canada, longer trucks produce fewer harmful emissions and even contribute to improving road safety. The Government of Nova Scotia looks at how the truck configurations could no longer operate in the province.

Canadian Trucking Alliance-Natural Resources Canada has conducted a two-year study that involves ten parks trucks in Western Canada and Quebec and the result is really amazing. The alliance found that the use of articulated vehicles longer as Turnpike doubles and one can really reduce emissions of greenhouse gas emissions and improve road safety.

The study also showed that Turnpike doubles are also two to three times more secure compared to the overall fleet of tractor trailers to move multiple Ontario lane roads when measured in kilometers traveled per vehicle. The turnpike doubles was also found to save an average of 28.8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers compared to single-trailer configuration that saves 55 percent savings.

Apart from that turnpike doubles could also reduce the number of trucks on the road by six to ten percent based on the study. For several month in New Brunswick participated in a pilot project that uses a combination of vehicles including a tractor and two trailers of 16 feet. Sunbury Transport has been operating trucks between Dieppe and Saint John. The vehicles are under a special permit.

The Executive Director of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, Peter Nelson said that the industry is working to reduce emissions and improve safety. He also added that the reduction of emissions resulting from longer trucks, combined with new eco-friendly engines, better truck quality of some components that are currently used in conjunction with ultra-low diesel fuel sulfur content, will ensure that "by 2010 will almost an issue of the truck. "

Alliance study also shows that nearly 900 million miles of truck travel would be saved each year by promoting the use of turnpike doubles, and 260 million liters of fuel will also be saved and 730 kilotonnes greenhouse gas emissions will be avoided.

The alliance study also shows that if ever the turnpike double network is expanded the winner will be the Ontario followed by Quebec and the Maritimes. It is estimated that the movement of goods in Ontario alone, the annual saving would be 54 million liters of fuel and 151 kilotonnes of greenhouse gas emissions would be eliminated. And not only that! A dual toll system in the Maritimes to Ontario to help save 106 million liters of fuel and prevent 297 kilotonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

Apart from Canadian Trucking Alliance-Natural Resources Canada, the study was also conducted by a consulting firm and overseen by a steering committee including the Center for Sustainable Transportation, Climate Change Central Department Transportation Ontario, the Canadian Council of Safety, and Transport Canada.

In this richly documented work, Serge Courville tells the geographical history of Quebec, from the appearance of the first human groups through to the present day. This detailed and erudite book maps the major stages of Quebec’s collective development, providing a geographical record of the many social relationships that over time created a sense of place. Landscape, Courville shows, is the keeper of memory, the record of successive changes, and a witness to the genesis of the new. Places that were once agricultural, then left to waste and ruin, are today revivified by tourism. Areas that now house office buildings were long ago open playgrounds where children ruled. Drawing on vast research, Courville shows how, in spite of the turbulence Quebec often endures – or perhaps because of it – the land itself may be seen as an important participant in the history of its peoples. Quebec: A Historical Geography was originally published by Les Presses de l’Universite Laval as Le Quebec: Geneses et mutation du territoire.
