Have you ever gone into the desert? If yes, you've probably spotted a very common animal – the desert iguana.
Those who live in this region say they have seen these iguanas in their yards, people hiding behind large rocks.
Iguanas like to eat the flowers and leaves of bushes many. The iguana will change its color changes from gray to almost white tint. This is usually done from early in the morning as temperatures are lower mid-day when temperatures are much higher. Iguanas do to avoid getting too hot.
1. Where to find Desert Iguana
This type of iguana grows in the southwestern and western United States and also Mexico. They include the states of Utah (southwest corner) Nevada (South Pars), Baja California, Arizona (south central), Mexico (northwest corner) and finally to California mainly the areas of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. They have also been identified in some islands of the Gulf of California.
The desert iguana, known by its scientific name dispsosaurus dorsalis, like habitats, sandy and arid found in the desert. Creosote bushes and rocks are used by these iguanas away. They also may use the burrow holes kangaroo rats that have been abandoned to find peace. In its habitat south, iguanas can be seen in the deciduous forest and subtropical places.
2. What looks like the desert iguana
This iguana develops between ten and sixteen inches long. His body is round and wide and its tail will grow long. The head of the iguana will brown while parts of it have a reddish brown hue. The neck and trunk body were beige and gray spots while the tail has some white spots or even gray.
When the weather gets really hot, the iguana bushes trying to cool. However, despite the fact that the temperature of 115 degrees or more, the iguana is still active.
3. What Iguanas eat
The shelter from heat and predators would also food. This makes vegetarian iguana. Classified as herbivores, they eat fruits, buds and leaves of desert perennials and annuals. It is much hungrier for the yellow flowers that bloom on the creosote bush. They may also eat insects and lizard excrement. These iguanas are not endangered despite their predators.
4. Iguana movements
When people find these reptiles to cross the road they often go through a very rapid pace which means that moving quickly at other times too. How? Their hind legs are very powerful as it allows a movement type. Their predators are foxes, birds of prey, weasels, rats, snakes and of course humans. Unfortunately, the eggs of the desert iguana are often embarrassed and then eaten by these animals.
5. The breeding season of the desert iguana
The iguana will start making its presence known by mid-March. It is when he leaves her long hibernation period. When the mating season occur? It often happens between the months of April and May During the month of May and June, it is expected the desert iguana will lay anywhere from two to ten eggs which is supposed to hatch during the second half of July until August. During the breeding season, adult iguanas in the desert have a pink color that is next to their belly. "
