The Indian Ocean Beach Club is located on a white sand beach south of Mombasa, and surrounded by groves of swaying coconut trees, and old baobabs.
This is not the kind of hotel that is far too popular these days, all singing all dancing, disco, height, fade, huge, Could Be Anywhere type of place.
The Indian Ocean Beach Club was built to attract honeymooners and romantics, and recreate an era Unfortunately, past where the service and opulence reigned.
To some extent they have succeeded, and we found food, and excellent service, the rooms are outdated, spacious and private.
The staff obviously works hard to maintain the high standards that visitors have already come to accept as the norm, and it is a credit to the management staff of the station.
The Indian Ocean Beach Club is small, and small is beautiful, because you get the little touches missing in larger hotels, like bringing towels round frozen fruits and your chair long, and to raise flags on the beach if you want service. Even the best conditions of service arrived quickly!
If you do not been to Kenya before, be prepared for the hawkers outside the grounds of the hotel. Do not worry about the hotel property itself. The hawker whole thing beach boy was well guarded by the hotel, which appear to have a license to a group of trusted at one end of the beach. They do not bother you, instead of leaving them and haggle.
This means that you can use the beautiful white sand beach to your heart's content, and the peddlers come to earn a living, and we were certainly pleased with this arrangement.
A good thing to do is to pay extra for an ocean front cottage, which means you are literally on the beach, with views of the ocean.
The rooms were large with TV, air conditioning, canopy beds etc. cottage was spotless, very very clean and very comfortable.
We enjoyed the food which was delicious, especially the barbecue and tea in the afternoon, and themed buffet nights.
The other thing we recommend is that you stay at Indian Ocean Beach Club for a few days, then spend a few days on safari, then come back and spend a few days more Beach Club to round out your vacation.
Finally, I suppose if you go expecting a European experience of five stars, you may be a little disappointed with the small things, but remember that Africa is five stars.
In conclusion, I would recommend the bottom of the Indian Ocean Beach Club.
The cuisine is excellent, service was excellent and the rooms superb.
Unless you've been spoiled rotten in places like the St Geran, I do not see how you can fail to have a great time.
